Bryn's early years were very full, attending
shows and competitions. He was frequently called upon by
a local farmer to help move sheep, something he did naturally
with the minimum of training. Now, in his twilight years
he regularly visits a residential home in his role as PAT
dog. Ill health has plagued him of late and after collapsing
he was diagnosed as having Addison's disease but daily medication
and regular monitoring allows him to lead a near normal
life.
(ADDISON'S DISEASE - Hypoadrenocorticism. In simple terms
a hormone that controls sodium and potassium levels in the
body is not present causing a series of vague symptoms that
are often misdiagnosed. Continual lack of the hormone can
result in a crisis or collapse. Daily replacement of the
hormone in tablet form rectifies the problem.) |
